Advocacy The Future of Hampton Roads The Future of Hampton Roads (FHR) is an organization committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and appreciation within the Hampton Roads, Virginia region. Established by a passionate group of community leaders, we believe in the power of unity and the potential of our localities to flourish together to make Hampton Roads an outstanding place to live, work, play, and raise families. American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics AIAA is the world’s largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. Created in 1963 by the merger of the two great aerospace societies of the day, the American Rocket Society (founded in 1930 as the American Interplanetary Society), and the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences (established in 1933 as the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences), AIAA carries forth a proud tradition of more than 80 years of aerospace leadership. The Norfolk Innovation Corridor The Norfolk Innovation Corridor (NIC) is an area paralleling the Elizabeth River Trail that stretches from Norfolk State University to Old Dominion University, including the Eastern Virginia Medical School/Sentara/Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Fort Norfolk, Downtown Norfolk, the Neon Arts District and the Harbor Park area. Under state law, it is designated as a “technology zone”, enabling qualifying startup firms and firm expansions to receive certain tax incentives, in addition to enjoying the other advantages of setting up business where physical, networking and economic assets are so densely clustered. The NIC serves to attract and retain technology companies while serving as a magnet for a talented and diverse workforce. The Vertical Flight Society The Vertical Flight Society is the world’s oldest and largest technical society dedicated to enhancing the understanding of vertical flight technology. VFS is a non-profit, charitable educational and technical organization. Since it was founded as the American Helicopter Society (AHS) in 1943 — just as the first US helicopter was being put into service — the Society has been the primary forum for interchange of information on vertical flight technology. According to the Society Bylaws, the purpose of the Society is to "advance the theory and practices of the science of vertical flight aircraft." Colonial Virginia Chapter Quad-A The Colonial Virginia Chapter is located in Tidewater Virginia centrally located between Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, and Yorktown. Predominant units supported are U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC); U.S. Army Capability Integration Center (ARCIC); 128th Aviation Training Brigade, Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD), recently reflagged as Aviation Development Directorate-Eustis, ADD-E. The diverse functions of the units served by the Colonial Virginia Chapter includes a MACOM, capabilities integration and futures planning, science and technology, research and developmental testing, maintenance training, and a United States Army Reserve unit. Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia The Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia (USAV) is a non-profit coalition focused on promoting a legal and regulatory framework that supports innovation, collaboration and growth in the unmanned systems industry in the Commonwealth. Night Stalker Association The Night Stalker Association is a non-profit organization created in the late 1980's and is organized under IRC 501(c)(19) as a War Veterans' Organization. Contributions to the NSA serve to preserve the memories and comradeship kindled by the mutual experience of service with the 160th SOAR (A) and to render assistance to Night Stalker members and families, and our fallen brothers surviving families, through means of college grants, loans, special financial assistance, camaraderie building events, and personal guidance. Innovate Hampton Roads To foster the growth and development of the innovation and technology ecosystem in Hampton Roads by educating entrepreneurs and business leaders, ensuring their access to essential resources, and developing connections within the business community to create synergistic partnerships.
