🛫 One Region, One Sky: A Bold Vision for Hampton Roads Aviation
Hampton Roads is home to 1.7 million residents, the largest concentration of active-duty military in the U.S., and a growing innovation economy. Yet our aviation infrastructure remains fragmented—three separate airport authorities competing for the same routes and resources.
A recent proposal calls for a unified regional airport system, modeled after successful examples in D.C., New York, and Chicago. The 2024 Hampton Roads Air Study confirms what many have long suspected: collaboration and coordination are essential to compete in the future of air travel.
📊 A unified system would allow Newport News-Williamsburg (PHF), Norfolk International (ORF), and Chesapeake Regional (CPK) to operate as one strategic ecosystem—supporting expanded commercial service, international routes, and advanced aviation technologies.
